This project explores how information can be more clearly and respectfully communicated to young people involved in the children’s court process. Led by Youth Justice NSW in collaboration with legal, advocacy, and court organisations, the project focuses on improving understanding, engagement, and procedural fairness within existing legislative constraints.

The scope spans printed resources and digital concepts that support young people before, during, and after court proceedings, as well as the professionals who work with them.

Grounded in principles of procedural justice and inclusion, the project responds to challenges such as language barriers, learning disabilities, trauma, mental health, and hearing difficulties.

Project Information

Simplified Legal Forms

Existing legal forms rely heavily on jargon and complex language, making them difficult for young people to engage with.

This design aims to prioritise youth-friendly content while maintaining the accuracy and authority required in legal contexts.

Before the Court

In the waiting room, a digital platform and physical kit support young people in practising and understanding procedures, spaces, and their own case details. The design aims to support their confidence during court appearances.
